Day of the Bible 2015
You may not know this, but there is a special day out of the year that is designated to commemorate the Bible, “The Day of the Bible.” Here in Brazil, the second Sunday in December is set apart of this day. This year it fell on December 13th. Here at the church we decided to have a very special worship service that Sunday, where every member was encouraged to bring a friend. So we started motivating people to participate a few weeks in advance, creating special formal invitations for them to hand out.
When the big day finally arrived, we had between 70 and 80 visitors in attendance. Every visitor received a Bible and an instant-photo of them with the family who invited them as gifts. Every part of the worship service had the visitors in mind, going back to the basics and explaining why we do the things we do: from the weekly Lord’s supper to the offering. For the sermon, I brought a message from 2 Kings 22, encouraging everyone to “find” the Word of God’s relevancy and application in their lives. Overall, the event was very encouraging and we have started discussing four more similar events for 2016.
