Father’s & Mother’s Days

My first Father's Day

My first Father’s Day

As a new father, I could not have wanted a better gift for my birthday. My first (real) Father’s Day in Brazil fell on the same day as my 32nd birthday. So I had a double reason to celebrate. Not only had God granted me one more year of life, but He also blessed my wife and me with a healthy baby girl.

The church here also has many reasons to celebrate. This is why we decided to host two special events: Mother’s Day Celebration on May 8th (more traditionally celebrated) and Father’s Day Celebration on August 14th (a first time for our church).

We organized two special Sunday worship assemblies geared towards receiving parents and visitors. Nice invitations were printed up and handed out in advance. A special breakfast was offered. And small keepsakes were distributed, along with nice Bibles, for our visitors. Everyone was excited to take a photo with their family in front of our special decorations and cake.

All in all, they were festive Sunday mornings that gave many the chance to hear the Word of God preached, meet members of our church family and learn more about the upcoming classes of the School of the Bible.

We know that every day is an appropriate day to celebrate our parents, those who cared for us and, in many cases, passed on their faith. But that shouldn’t keep us from making some days extra special.
