School of the Bible off to a great start

Classes this year began early in 2013 with a one month long intensive course. Last month we offered two courses: “How to Read and Understand the Bible” and “Basic English”. We had about 13 attend the language course and 30 attend the Bible course. It was great to see our students taking time to study God’s word not only in the Bible class but also in our Basic English class.

Students who attend our English classes usually care attracted due to the low cost (we charge a token fee to increase commitment and defray costs) and to the native teachers (to learn American pronunciation). This means we get people who may have little to no religious background. It has been a great tool to reach out to the community. In the beginning of each class we give a brief devotional on a different topic of the Bible – God, Jesus, Sin, Salvation, Discipleship – these are all basic and important subjects, although little known to many of our new students.

On the last Sunday of January we had a completion ceremony where our students received certificates. The ceremony is right before worship services. This allows our students to get to know our church family and to experience worship with us. On these Sundays we have many visitors who are attending our congregation for the very first time. Some of the students grow close to Christ and become his followers as you can see from this story: https://www.redeemingrecife.org/teaching-more-than-english/.

Please keep the School of the Bible in your prayers!
