The fellowship we share together is with God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ
A great celebration of fellowship and worship service called “Day of the Family of God” marked the first Sunday of this month. It was held at a rented auditorium in the centrally located downtown area. There were 732 brethren from sixteen congregations around the metropolitan area who joined together as one to praise God and share the Lord’s Supper.
This event began in the mid-1980s after the downtown church began to plant congregations in the suburbs. As members swarmed out to form the new churches, they felt a longing to see their brothers and sisters they were having to leave behind.
The event gives brethren a chance to join together once again in joyful worship with fellow Christians that they may not have seen all year. It also helps to remind us that the Family to which God has made us a member in Christ Jesus is much larger than those we see each week. This is especially important to brothers and sisters in the smaller congregations.
Some churches have been around for decades and own their own buildings, are new, and meet in rented rooms or public schools. These brothers and sisters eagerly await this yearly event to rekindle many friendships that are made during events like these that promote fellowship within the area. One Day there will be no more waiting for endless fellowship.
